MTA-headquarters in Miskolc 152TM2

The MTA-MAB headquarters building was built in 1896 for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. After 1945, the building was used by the County Council. Later it was the home of the Ferenc Rákóczi County Library and then by the Herman Ottó Museum.

The eclectic style of the building corresponded to its time and expressed the taste of the industrial class looking back on old traditions and the up-and-coming merchants who got rich at the end of the last century. Although it is not a monument, it is of cityscape importance, because the proportion of the main masses, its rich plastic play, and above all the beauty and pure logic of the interior spaces created a dignified, beautiful public building. The renovation of the building and its transformation for the MAB headquarters were carried out by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences based on the plans of architect Anna Cifka.
