Who's your daddy
Having spent a fair amount of time observing these sea ducks, I have noticed that they seem to have a mutual respect in their courting unlike the mallards. Its about a 5 to 1 ratio, drakes outnumbering the hens by far. Even though the Scoters are high octane ducks, with an enormous amount of energy, I never see any serious confrontations or fights between them. Perhaps because the mallards have lived in the city for so long and have become less wild and are somewhat dependent on humans for food., it has degraded their behavior.
