The Specialist
White tailed kites specialize in hunting voles, small gophers, and other small rodents. Their hunting style of hovering and small talons makes them well equipped for this type of hunting. Most raptors are opportunists and will eat anything that moves. Other specialists that come to mind are peregrines (almost exclusively birds) and ospreys (almost exclusively fish). I say almost because there are always exceptions. I once photographed a peregrine with a ground squirrel and an osprey with an eared grebe. The background is wild mustard and a hill in the distance.
