January 8, 2019 – Risso’s Dolphins Slaughter – Taiji, Japan
Taiji: A pod of 12 Risso’s dolphins were quickly located this morning and driven into the Cove in the second successful dolphin hunt of 2019. Three dolphins were put into slings and taken to sea pens in the harbour. These three will now live the remainder of their lives in captivity, deprived of the life they were born to lead, purely for the sake of entertainment and industry profits. The remaining 9 Risso’s were slaughtered amongst this captive selection.
To see a Risso’s dolphin in captivity is to see a completely muted and broken version of what these intelligent beings really are. Most people will never be fortunate enough to witness Risso’s dolphins in the wild, however this could change if there were a shift away from hunting and towards ecotourism. When the demand for captive dolphins ends, the hunting will too.
Be a voice for the voiceless.
