FormFollowsFunction

Both of these instruments are made by the same company, Traveler Guitars. This company, like a handful of others, create guitars with the specific purpose of being able to be packed away and played in small areas. Functionally, they both are similar: the removal of the headstock allows for the instrument to be smaller, overall. Their hardware is slightly different from each other, but they are comparable, so that isn’t necessarily important. What is important, however, is their form. The model on the left is a monotasker. It is not pretty, it is not flashy, and it doesn’t try to look like it is. The only real piece of detail, the metal brace at the bottom, is removable, to allow for it to be even more streamlined than it already is, and to further reduce how much space it requires. It is, at its core, a traveler guitar. The model on the right, however, is overdone. It is designed too much to look like a standard guitar (specifically, the shape made popular by the Fender Stratocaster), in an attempt to make it look different than what it truly is. This is bad design.
