Cenote Zací, Valladolid, YU, Mexico
Cenote Zací, the cenote in the town centre, around which Valladolid's preceding Mayan town Saki was built. Valladolid, Yucatán, Mexico - March 2021
Cenotes are natural sinkholes resulting from the collapse of limestone that exposes groundwater. Due to the lack of rivers in the area inhabited by the Maya these were the main source of freshwater. "Zací" is an unconventional Spanish spelling of the Mayan name "Saki".
