Finally safe
A walk in the park turned into a rescue mission when this 3-mo-old kitten darted across my path and hid under a bush. I knelt and started coaxing, and she came out, but only to try to get away again. I was quicker and grabbed her by the scruff. When I lifted her into my arms, her initial panic melted, and she snuggled into my chest like a tired baby. She was thin and malnourished, and her ears were filthy (ear mites, possibly), but otherwise she seemed okay.
I took her home, picking up some kitten food from the grocery store on the way. Later, when I brought her (and my camera) onto my bed, she climbed all over me -- up my chest and around my shoulders, butting her head under my chin, kneading me with her paws, and purring her little heart out. Eventually she settled on my chest long enough for me to snap a few shots.
I thought about keeping her, but made the decision to bring her to a local animal rescue group instead. She was adopted just 6 days later. (No surprise, given her looks and personality!) Her rescue reignited a desire for a second cat, and a few months later I brought home a rowdy tabby boy from the local Humane Society. I love him to death, but I've never stopped wondering about this little baby...
Where ever you are, little one, I hope you are loved and spoiled!
