Colorado Checkered Whiptail

Whiptails are daytime hunters, quick and active and always on the move. And like most lizards, they tend to be very wary of humans. So the fact that this one allowed me to stick a macro lens within 18 inches of it is absolutely NUTS! Maybe she had a full belly that made her lazy, I dunno.

These whiptails are also called Triploid Checkered Whiptails, and are quite remarkable from a scientific perspective. Click here for more information.
