Here's lookin' at you!

A Common Collared Lizard (Crotaphytus collaris), on a chunk of petrified wood in Arizona's Petrified Forest National Park.

Got a story with this one: This lizard was quite unafraid of the humans around him. I decided to try to get a really close detailed shot of the side of his face and upper body, and put the camera into close macro mode. But just as I was inching the camera forward, a little girl came up suddenly on the other side of the rock. Startled, the lizard turned and and darted forward a few steps, away from the girl -- and straight toward me! I held my breath, found his face in my viewfinder, and fired. Then I thanked the girl for setting up such a perfect shot!

This lizard, BTW, is an adult male. Only the males are this bright bluish-green; the females are a more drab greenish-brown shade.
