Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 shoves its train up TRRA's Highline to the tunnels under the St. Louis Arch for a quick photo op. The two historical icons of expansion and progress meet for a brief moment in time as their histories are interwoven into the fabric of the United States. The 630 foot tall St. Louis Arch represents St. Louis' role in westward expansion and being known as the Gateway to the West. While the 132 foot long 1.2 million pound Big Boy represents the peak of steam locomotive technology and helping close the gap from coast to coast by hauling long trains of the materials that would help end wars, expand cities, and modernize the country from the 1940s and into the 1960s.
