Cloverleaf Rocker

With 112 cars loaded in Oakland, DREI train 400 heads for an interchange with Canadian National at Neoga Illinois, seen between Fairgrange and and Charleston Illinois. The train is slowly rocking back and forth on the former Nickel Plate Cloverleaf Division which ran from East St. Louis Illinois to Frankfort Indiana. The section from Metcalf to Neoga Illinois, about 56 miles or so, are now under the control of Watco's Decatur and Eastern Illinois Railroad. The DREI had purchased this section from the Eastern Illinois Railroad (EIRC) in December of 2019. Nearly all the rest of the Cloverleaf is abandoned except for a small section from Sorento to Coffeen IL to allow coal trains to access the Coffeen power plant.
