Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, New York

by Ray's Hobby Photos

Located at Pier 86 in New York Harbour, Intrepid was one of 24 Essex Class carriers built for the US Navy. Decommissioned after WWII she was converted to various roles and remained in service until 1974.
I first visited Intrepid during a visit to Portsmouth in 1971 when she was an anti-submarine carrier with A-4, S-2, E-1 and SH-3 on board.
Saved from the scrap yard and refitted in 2006 she is now a very popular venue in New York with a selection of military aircraft, a submarine, the Space Shuttle Enterprise and a British Airways Concorde.
