Leucophyllum frutescens is an evergreen shrub native to the state of Texas (United States), and from the northern Mexico.
Although commonly known as "Texas sage" , it is not a true sage and is distinct from the genus Salvia.
The species is also called "Texas silverleaf" or "Texas rain sage".
The solitary axillary flowers are bell- or funnel-shaped, mostly in the colors pink or violet, but there are also white ones.
The most intense flowering is usually in the summer, after the rains of the season. The leaves have a silvery-green-gray tone, densely covered with hair, which makes it was named in Brazil as Silver Leaf or Silver Rain.
Texas sage is a popular ornamental plant, commonly used for edge and plantings in warmer and drier areas. It requires minimal water, is easily shaped into hedges, and blooms over the entire surface, but is not cold tolerant.
I found this beautiful shrub blooming outside a house in my home town. The effect of the pink flowers in the middle of the leafs (that look even more silvered at the sunlight) enchanted me a lot!
