Pat (E Cakes)
Untitled (Abandoned marine refueling station in January)
When I left my house for a solo photo walk on the Amherstburg road that hugs the shore of the Detroit River and Lake Erie I found myself disappointed that the sun was disappearing behind a bank of clouds low on the horizon. It's not often when I get to go out like this, and I was hoping for some dramatic sunset shots over a mostly frozen great lake (at least at the north-western mouth). The way the sun lit up the wispier clouds farther up in the sky, leaving the horizon and foreground in hazy silhouette, ended up providing me with great lighting and content to shoot. It is pretty rare when I have four or five shots of the same subject that I am generally happy with, but this is definitely the case with this shot and the one beside it in my photostream. Having the luxury of not freezing to death in the recent polar vortex that had just lost its grip the day before this shot was another pleasant aspect to composing these shots.
