"These new vessels, which will begin operating in the Gulf of Mexico starting in late 2011, will redefine the ATM industry. Designed to carry 330,000 barrels of refined product, with a double wall hull construction in compliance with the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, they provide a combination of carrying capacity, seaworthiness and speed unmatched by any class of ATB. The Crowley Maritime Type 750 "Legacy Class" Articulated Tug and Barge combination is the largest ever designed. The three 330,000 bbs barges are being constructed at VT Halter, Pascagoula, MS and the three tugs at Dakota Creek.
The tugs, designed by Naviform in Vancouver, BC, have unique propulsion pod housing. The two Wartsila C32 Main Engines and the controllable pitch propellers produce a total of 16,000 HP. Each engine/propeller is arranged in two seperate engine rooms and are capable of runing on heavy fuel oil." - DCI
