FC «Volga» - www.fcvolgann.ru/ - was created in 1963 by a merger of two clubs: «Torpedo» and «Raketa». After the first season «Volga» was able to get to the top division. «Volga» spent a season in the top football society under the sign of embarrassing mistakes and fatal bad luck. Our team’s fate has been settled in an additional match for the 13th place. «Torpedo Kutaisi» was our opponent. Georgians won with a 4:2 score, and «Volga» lost its place in the first group of Class «A». Then «Volga» took the 4 th place in the 1968 season in the second group «A» class (similar to the current First division) and thrice (1971, 1972 and 1974) our team became the bronze medalist of zonal tournament in the second league. «Volga» participated in the championships of the USSR until the season of 1984.

 

In 2008 FC «Volga» won a first place in the area of the «Ural-Volga» region of second division. It also won the PFL Cup, a tournament of winners of five zones of the second division. «Volga» played with teams from Premier League in the Cup of Russia. Our club defeated «Saturn», but «Tom» was stronger in the penalty shoot-out. «Volga’s»debut in the first division was successful. In 2009, the team demonstrated a nice game and good results. The club made record series of 16 consecutive matches without loss. In addition, our guys took first place in the second round and became the fourth team of the First Division in season of 2009. In May 2010 Omari Tetradze became a head coach of the club. Under his leadership the club resulted in a second place. ‘Volga» got the largest number of victories (10), scored the most goals (62) and lost the fewest games (5). Otar Martsvaladze became the best scorer of the First Division.

This season the club has started in the Premier League.

 

FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod (Russian: Футбольный Клуб "Волга" Нижний Новгород) is a Russian football club from Nizhny Novgorod, founded in 1963. In 2008, FC Volga won the Ural-Povolzhye (Volga Region in Russian) zone of the Russian Second Division and advanced to the Russian First Division. It finished First Division as 4th in 2009 and finished one as 2nd in 2010 and promoted to Russian Premier League for 2011 season.
