A Tribute to our Mocha
Early this morning our Mocha slipped away to join his wife Enoki, mum Mirugai and daddy Mochi over the rainbow.
I spent a few good hours yesterday talking to him and holding him close, massaging him like I know he has always enjoyed. I even let him take a walk around to survey the hamstery, not realising the end was so near. He was already incredibly weakened but I was (wrongfully) quite optimistic.
Though I know it is but a part of the 'circle of life', and that his family line continues through Inniskillin, his great grand-daughter, I'll always miss this incredibly cheeky and endearing boy that I once helped to raise by hand, and all that life with him entailed. His fondness for broccoli equalled his fondness for escaping.
It comforts me somewhat that he and Enoki can be together now wherever they are. They've led the good life, fought the good fight and are now side by side again. I hope they are happier now.
What a year this has been for us. Sigh. Daniel and I and our hamsters thank everyone for the love you have shown us through the years.
