Hi there, fellow photography fans. Many thanks for checking out my photostream and profile. Here's a little bit about me, in case you're interested. :)

Photography is an art form I love with a passion since I got fully aware of it back in 2011. Since I was young, I have always been interested in photography but only to the point of *click*. In 2000 I bought my first digital camera, the nice little Olympus C2000Z 2.1 megapixel - wow!

In 2008 I got my hands on a Nikon DSLR for the first time. Finally, in 2010 I got 'kind of serious' with my own brand new Nikon D90. During my summer vacation I finally mastered the exposure triangle. In January 2011 I felt the urge to specialise in night photography. After a depressing period, when I lost my younger brother in a tragic car accident, photography turned into some kind of therapy for me. I really wanted to get better and gladly got myself the Nikon D700, my first full-frame camera. For anyone in the know, please forgive me my HDR phase, it was over when I went FF (full frame). :D That D700, such a great camera for the money, and such an awesome sensor.

In 2015 I upgraded to the Nikon D810, because I needed the 36MP for XL format printing and sell my images. I've always loved using Nikon primes for my work, like the (now sort of vintage) 20mm (f/2.8), 50mm (f/1.4), 85mm (f/1.8 etc. etc. After that I got my hands on 'the Nikon trilogy', and let's face it: the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 are amazing. Credits to Sigma for their 12-24mm which I have used for many years when I was really into ULTRA wide angle.

I've been shooting on and off with the medium format Fujifilm GFX series, that sensor is just out of this world. You'll never be the same if you see GFX raw files 1:1. Oh boy. But I guess I'll always remain a 'Nikon man' though, I simply cannot afford Fujifilm GFX glass (in the range I 'need', LOL. In 2022 I bought the best DSLR ever, the Nikon D850. But in the end I also wanted to keep up with new technology, so I knew I had to upgrade to Nikon Z. Eventually in 2023 I did, I bought the Z7ii, which should have been a Z8 - but not enough money in the bank. :( I sold all my F lenses and bought only Z primes: 20mm, 35mm, 50mm f/1.8 and 105mm macro f/2.8. That's it. I have to reinvent my way of working completely, coming from the 14 - 200mm f/2.8 trilogy. Not sure if I'm totally happy now... :-/

*I love filters*. I use a whole bunch of HOYA filters, like the IR72 and the Pro ND 100.000 - 16 stops! I use Hoya HD Nano Mk II polarizers - they are unbeatable, I cannot live without them. In 2018 my tripod ended up in the Nervión river in Bilbao. Since then I use SIRUI carbon tripods. These are brilliant and excellent value for money. My favourite combination is the stable Sirui RX2 with a ST-20 ball head. Also: they have never winded up in any shady river or ocean so far. Which makes me happy. :)

I always used Photoshop (RAW) and a little bit of OnOne Photosuite for basic post-processing. I used to love Photomatix Pro for HDR stuff back in the day, but I can't bear to look at it now. I think it was mainly the lack of dynamic range that made me use it when I was shooting DX format. Or a mental breakdown. Or both. Please forgive me, slowly but surely I'm deleting all my HDR work from the past. It wasn't me, oh no. LOL

Somehow I got into the fortunate position selling my images to websites and magazines, and people have my work on their living room and office walls. It's still just a hobby though, but I'm glad I can spend that money on new hardware without annoying my lovely wife - too much.

Thank you Flickr, my Flickr contacts and friends for inspiring me. I have learned a lot thanks to you - I'm always checkings EXIF - so thank you all. But when I'm completely lost and miss that creative spark, I watch 'Koyaanisqatsi' again - probably my favourite film ever. It will give me that *vibe* I need. I'll get my camera, and step out of that door...

Thank you

I'm very grateful and have a lot of respect for the pioneers of photography and the manufacturers of camera gear with their incredible technical expertise. I also follow and admire many photographers on Flickr who keep on blowing my mind and inspire me - thank you so much. But in the first place all true credits, my love and appreciation goes to the creator of light, our eyes - two very advanced camera's - and source of creativity.

Stay awake, keep watching those skies - happy shooting! :)
