Update from Nov 2015: I haven't been active on Flickr lately because I've been working on my book, "Shanghai Old Town: Topography of a Phantom City." Look it up on Amazon or Taobao!
Volume One is now available, and Volume Two is in the works.
What's happening in Chinese cities is best described by this quote from The Situationist City:
"No one could deny that urban reorganization has been a stock response among modern states faced with social instability, a process usually involving slum clearance and the improvement of communications.
[...]
With the present means of long-distance communication, sprawling isolation has proved an effective method of keeping a society under control."
Now you know everything. I walk in neighborhoods and take pictures of endangered and disappearing urban communities. I use analog cameras and expired film stock. Never meaning to make a fetish of it, I ended up with an arsenal of Soviet cameras that includes SLR Kiev-88, twin-lens-reflex Lubitel 166B, rangefinders Kiev-4 and Zorki-4, half-frame Chaika and folding Moskva-5. And one indigenous species Hongmei, with delicious fungus on the lens.
I started People in the windows and French Concession.
