I have always loved looking at and making pictures of people’s faces.

Even though I've been doing it for so long, I still can't explain what it is that makes a good portrait, or how to create one.

I know it when I see it: good portraits have a certain musical quality.

Good portraits are deeply moving.

Time, too, is a major challenge. If we could see someone from the time they were a child until they were very old, which face is the 'real' them? Portrait-making is an adventure with an open end.
