I had so much fun going through Ran's stream again before I wrote this.. I was really looking forward to meeting him when I went to New York and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Quiet, yes but in that quiet he absorbed the world around him and then took pictures of it.. I love that he loves the old cameras, film, black and white, perfect little moments caught in time. His shots really do have a special quality all their own, they live with movement and emotion and that balance of old and new. He never bores me. He always makes me say Yes and smile.. And I love that he can jump around from street to portrait to architecture and amaze me equally.. oh, and I can't forget his deadly dark sense of humour - like fine wine.. :-)

zalkr has one of the best icons on flickr, and it was weird to meet the person behind such a mysterious icon. but, i am glad he met with us as ran is adorably kind and friendly. it was such a pleasure meeting ran and sharing a lunch with him. i am thoroughly impressed with his ny photography, particularly the motion and angles detailed in his underworld subway set. i hope to shoot with ran again in the city and learn a few things from him.
