Here at the National Library of Ireland we look after the largest collection of Irish printed, manuscript, and visual material in the world, and our collections span almost 1,000 years of Irish art, culture, history and literature.

We first started on flickr in February 2010 with a range of items from our Ephemera Collections. These printed items - originally produced to be almost as quickly thrown away - are invaluable as a means of gaining snapshots of different periods in Ireland's social, political, economic and cultural history. Though transient items, they're sometimes very beautiful to look at, occasionally fascinating, and often unintentionally funny...

We're now also adding items from our Manuscript collections, as well as photos from Library Events. Plus see what else we're up to on Twitter and Facebook.

We're SO delighted to be on The Commons now since Thursday, 2 June 2011, giving just a taster of our huge range of photos. And we'll be constantly adding more!.

Whichever photostream you look at , know that we positively welcome your comments on any items in our photostreams. Feel free to add tags or notes. This material is here for you to enjoy...
