Ik ben de trotse vader van twee zonen en opa van drie kleinkinderen.

Omstreeks mijn 15e ben ik met fotograferen begonnen. Zoals iedereen begon ook ik met het maken van vooral familiefoto´s. Langzaam is dat uitgegroeid tot een hobby inclusief het ontwikkelen en vergroten van foto`s in de donkere kamer. Natuurlijk is dit, zoals dat meestal gaat, een proces geweest van vallen en opstaan waarbij heel veel door zelf experimenteren moest worden uitgevonden.

Door vaak te praten met en te luisteren naar ervaren zwart/wit fotografen en lezen van boeken zoals die Fotoschule, en das Schwartz-Weiss Labor heb ik uiteindelijk mijn technische kennis kunnen aanvullen tot het niveau dat ik wenste.

Ook het regelmatig bezoeken van exposities en kijken naar werk van andere fotografen heb ik altijd als leerrijk en inspirerend ervaren voor mijn eigen fotografie.

In dit digitale tijdperk werk ik nog steeds gedeeltelijk analoog. Voor het opnamedeel gebruik ik zwart / wit films die ik zelf ontwikkel. Verdere verwerking gaat wel digitaal; de negatieven worden gescand met een negatiefscanner. Vervolgens bewerk ik mijn foto´s in Photoshop om ze uiteindelijk de vorm te geven die mijn visie weergeeft.

My name is Yo (Jo) Leenders. I live in the Netherlands, in the southern province of Limburg, in its capital: the beautiful Maastricht.

I am the proud father of two sons and the grandfather of three grandchildren.

When I was about 15 years old I started out with photography. Like with almost everybody else, this was mainly by making family photos and snapshots. However, I became more and more fascinated by the possibilities of this medium and its technical aspects. And gradually this interest evolved into quite a serious (and time-consuming!) hobby (not really a good word for something I'm so passionate about ) that since long includes almost every aspect of it, including of course the process of developing/enhancing in my very own darkroom.

Like everything else in life, this was (and still is) a process of trial and error in which I learned most (naturally!) from failure and experimentation.

Also I was lucky to be able to meet a lot of experienced (B&W-) photographers and learn from them. But also magazines and books such as Photo Schule, das Schwarz-Weiss and Labor, were very helpful in raising the bar on my dexterity, skill and technical knowledge. Visiting exhibitions of other photographers, I've always found instructive and inspiring.

In this overwhelmingly and increasingly digital age, I still like to work (part) analog. Call me a dinosaur (I dare you!) but especially the development of the film (B&W) I like to keep in my own experienced hands. This is a crucial step in which I want things to be "just so" and to my own specifications (and if anything goes wrong: I'm the only one to blame, hah!). But besides that: I just love it!

In the next stages, after film development, I mostly switch to digital techniques (voilà: I do go with the modern times when it suits my goal): photonegative scanning and Photoshop.

And after all this I hope to achieve a result that reflects my particular (maybe even peculiar?) vision.
