I begin this latest update with a special THANK YOU to Desmond for his generosity of spirit in granting me a PRO account last year. (2011.) "Desmond Canon (Steiner62 (An Animal in touch with his Anima)) has just purchased a Flickr Pro Account for you!" Thank you, my Flirkr friend!

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - - - Albert Einstein

Look around you. There are miracles everywhere. In the song of every bird, in the sparkle of every star. Watch a bud erupt into bloom and see the miracle there, or watch a child be born into life and hear the miracle of that first cry. There are miracles just waiting to be discovered. Never stop looking for them and, more importantly, never stop finding them. It is in this way you will come to understand that you are a miracle, too. And in that first shining moment of understanding something miraculous will occur.

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to photography. I purchased a Canon PowerShot at the end of July 2006 and am having so much fun with it. The early photos on my PhotoStream were taken with a VerizonPC camera phone. I've never read a book on photography and know that I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a photographer. I'm just having fun on Flickr!

I'm inspired by all the wonderful photos! Simply amazing!!! What I love most about Flickr is the sense of community with my brothers and sisters of this world.

I have learned that the most important thing in life is the connections we make with those we meet on our collective journey. I wish I knew more languages so I could communicate with more of you in your native language.

I consider myself to be spirit in a body and a seeker of truth. I believe that we are all on School House Earth to learn our lessons throughout our journey. For me, these lessons are simple: live, love, grow, forgive, learn. (and I was reminded to add: laugh!)

Don't just follow your passions....take the risk and live passionately! Enjoy your journey on School House Earth!

About me:

I began quilting 19 years ago and continued as homage to my Grandma. I quickly developed a fabric fetish. LOL! I've made a lot of quilts and still have a LOT of fabric and several sewing machines, including a computerized one.

I took art and painting classes 40 years ago and then stopped for about 25 years. I resumed painting classes 18 years ago. Painting is a very relaxing hobby, when I have time to do it. Sadly, this is not often.

I began classical ballet lessons at 3 and studied many forms of dance into adulthood. I still dance for exercise and recreation. I love to dance!

I don't have the time or patience to study music (and I can't sing!) but I do know the artists and lyrics of many songs from a variety of genre, in two languages, from the 1950s to the present. No, I was not old enough to remember the '50s (^_^) but my Dad loved DooWop and had many 78s, which he played often and I inherited. I own an extensive collection of CD's, LP's and 45's (remember those?) I like to listen to almost anything, depending on my mood.

I began writing poetry at 15 and continue it to this day in English and Spanish. Some are shared with Flickr "friends" under a few photos.

My newest creative outlet is photography through Flickr, which I discovered on the day following the eclipse on March 30, 2006. Heck! I just purchased a real camera last July! (2011)

Born and raised in NYC, I am of Puerto Rican ancestry. A Boricua!

Pop came at 8 and Mom came at 18 after high school. American citizens, like all Puerto Ricans, they still went through the immigrant experience. My folks met in college in their late teens. Dad was a decorated veteran from the Korean conflict (sustained an ear injury at 19, or so) and Mom studied and became a teacher while we were growing up. All we heard growing up was: "Nothing is more important than an education." She raised us while studying for 3 advanced degrees and is my model for my educational aspirations. This is why I am working toward a Ph.D.

The following is a holiday greeting I sent out in December 2005. I'm posting it here to share it with the Flickr community as it seems relevant to me.

"Whatever is beautiful,

whatever is meaningful,

whatever brings you happiness...

may it be yours this holiday season

and throughout the coming year."

Anonymous

During this holiday season of giving, I'd like to tell you a story.

Please indulge me a moment by granting me a bit of your time.

While driving North on the New England Thruway in the Bronx (New York City) last week I saw a Coca Cola AD sign that shows a polar bear (Northern Hemisphere) and a penguin (Southern Hemisphere) hugging. The sign reads: GIVE. LIVE. LOVE.

Wow! What a powerful message from the advertising media. The message is so simple, yet so profound! It goes far deeper than the (actual) AD message that what one should give is their soda. The actual TV commercial depicts the story behind the visual poster. It shows the small penguin offering a coke bottle as a sign of welcome and friendship to the much larger polar bear that slid into a penguin party by "accident." The simple act of giving followed by the equally simple act of receiving strikes up a pure friendship that is at once unusual yet wholly (holy?) natural....and all because of a chance encounter between two who would otherwise never have crossed paths.

And so it is with life.

What I truly know is that many seemingly chance encounters have enriched my life; not just by allowing me to be a natural giver, but, more importantly, helping me to become (as the late Eric Butterworth said over 22 years ago) a "gracious receiver."

A student of life, these past few years have taught me several priceless lessons. I especially learned to allow others beyond the mental realm and enjoyed the reward of having a warm and genuine relationship with many good friends and family members.

As 2005 draws to a close, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank you for enriching my life as a grateful recipient of the generosity of your friendship, support, and love.

Blessings to you and your loved ones during this holy holiday season!

As we embark on a new year and at all times on this School-House-Earth journey, may you enjoy robust health, peaceful comfort, and the love

of family and friends!

Just from what I read, the magic of your 'positive vision' and attitude shines through. Your quilts are awesome and look too good to use. Your appreciation of nature is apparent and (dare I call it) contageous? I love the clock! Time is a friend to you? Am honoured to be among your contacts, Yolanda!

Yolanda's is a great person and is usually the first to comment on your photos in a constructive, positive and upbeat manner. She is an accomplished, yet humble photographer and she, as well as her photos bring a bit of sunshine to all.
