In my line of work as production designer, I've come upon a multitude of black and white photographs, some dating as early as the 1920's. It has always been fun to look at them. Some have helped me in my research for period films I designed, but the photos keep accumulating, the boxes multiplying and I can't seem to keep track of the material. The worst part of it is that some of them are really great photographs, most of them fascinating in historical and social contexts.
The majority of the photographs was salvaged from the shredders of the Jewish agency. These are photographs taken in budding settlements, cities and villages, for fundraising in the USA and in Europe. These photos were shown to wealthy Jews who donated money for the development of these places. Most of them came to check on their cause, and are even photographed near plaques bearing their names.
Photographers are unknown, and if anyone can help me locate any, if living, I'll be much grateful. This is an experiment I hope will bear fruit.
