About Me and My Portfolios

The Turning Point of My Life

During 2010 to 2011, the deaths of my father and husband were shattering blows to me. In order to cheer me up, one of my best friends gave me a single-lens reflex camera as a gift. He hoped me that I can get on my feet and step outside to overturn my bad mood by shooting with this new camera.

Fall in Love with Photography

I have fallen in love with photography since taking my first photo with this new camera. For me, photography is as necessary to life as air or water, and it also has been one of my “reflex action”. I have been taking photos for over 5 years, and I will keep doing it as long as I could.

Personality and Creative Style

My distinctive and complex personality influenced the creative style of my photography. Due to my father was a soldier, I was disciplined as an independent, tactful and introverted person. For this reason, the styles of my photos are all very special. For example, there are conflicting components in the same photo; however, if you see the whole picture, it is surprisingly harmonious! Furthermore, sometimes it is a picture which combines with an animated part and a solitude part; sometimes it is a combination of violence and tenderness.

Creative Conceptions and my Previous Photography Series

My imagination always runs wild, therefore I never follow the rules when I’m photographing.

【Coinciding】

The idea of this photography series is to present the aesthetic views around our daily life. For me, an aesthetic view around our daily life is a combination of the attractive street painting and the realistic setting around those paintings. It is ordinary for me if I directly photograph those beautiful street art or graffiti as good photographs. On the other hand, if I really do so (only photograph the graffiti themselves), it may represent that I just “reproduce” other’s artworks as mine.

During I took photos for this series, I was trying to seek a perfect angle of view for capturing beautiful images as photos, which integrates those beautiful street paintings and the realistic setting around them. In order to capture this kind of “perfect angel of view”, I have to walk slowly, to flexibly stretch my body, to observe the surrounding carefully and patiently. When a street painting perfectly merges with its realistic surrounding harmoniously, a beautiful picture has been composed!

【Paint from The Heart – The Aesthetic Vision】

The Oriental Buddhist Physiognomy and the Western Gestalt Psychology are “two of powerful forces” operating in people’s mind. I included these two theories to present a very common topic – Animal Photography.

The animals in this photography series are not presented with “whole picture” but just presented in part as a kind of Abstract Expressionism. According to the theory of the Gestalt Psychology, although the viewers do not see the entire animals in my photos, the stereotype of these animals are still retained in the viewers’ minds. Therefore, the viewers can have their unique pictures while they combine “the presented parts (the partial animals which have been

presented in the pictures)” with “the absent parts (which created by the viewers’ own imaginations)”.

【Endless Extension】

The idea of this photography series is - I tried to transform my emotions into “physical shapes” through the photos. For me, emotions can be easily switched from existence into emptiness - sometimes they are visible but sometimes they are invisible. To be more specific, while I was “alone” physically, I didn’t really feel “lonely”. It was more like a kind of inner-self healing and let my mind have a temporary rest. Also, some photos express the concept of violent mood swings, and some photos represent the idea of gently whispering.

The style and rhythm in this photography series are extremely variable, however, the variety is exactly coherent with the fluctuates in my emotions, feeling, and experiences on my photography journey.

My Belief on Photography

What I strongly believe is that -“Actions speak louder than words.”

For me, good photos are produced by how many “actions” you take but not just telling people what your thoughts are. Thus, I am a photographer, who seldom to talk about photography or seldom to pre-plan my photography projects.

“Take action is the essentiality if you are a photographer!”

“Keep the faith on photography in mind.”

“Remember who you truly are.”

Those words above are the driving powers in my life on taking photographs. I will continuously keep my enthusiasm on photography forever and never give it up!
