I am a structural biologist interested in looking at molecules at atomic resolution - the sharpest images possible for biological molecules in 3D.

We image molecules using X-ray in a similar way as hospitals image human bodies with CAT scan. We do use photographs and CCD cameras. The latest instruments (camera) we use are pixel array detectors of up to 40 x 40 centimetres in size with 16 million 50 x 50 micron pixels. We always want to make the measurement as accurate as possible so that we can see more details.

Recently we have determined the high resolution structure of human RIG-I, a viral RNA sensor, bound to RNA. We have also made major contributions to understand how our immune system sense viral DNA through the cGAS-STING pathway. We hope to figure out how our immune system fight against viral infection.

I try photography in my spare time, just for fun. I do care if someone view my pictures, but these pictures are mainly for documentation of things I care.
