Of course it seems simple. Take a photograph! This stream, this work, is analagous to visual ballet, possibly visual chess. Simplicity of a viewed language of image, a coherent lingua franca of photographic intent, is a most difficult thing to attain. It is attained here. Image after image speaks to us of the seemingly everyday, vacant chairs, shadows cast on walls, voids, stairwells, paths, waiting. We are looking at what seems to be nothing. Though it does not seem silent. In what way is it not silent? This is a nothing that is vocal, eloquent, a nothing that speaks softly, though with clarity and quiet power. The images speak as much of what is not there as what is seen. In this space, within this gap, we can find a suitable silence. We can find a silence that may start to explain, to speak. If we listen, we can hear, and in hearing, we can understand. To live is to inhabit. To live is to look. To live is to be looked upon. Xgray's work asks us to walk into it. To inhabit it. It is the void as celebration, we can go there. We can live there. It is, in the end, joyful. the|G|™
