Self-portrait, with sunflowers by Amy Fichter

I photograph the treasures I find in my ordinary life... the landscape surrounding my small town, my son, my cats, and other creatures/beauties I see as my husband (ramadipa), my son, and I explore the place in which we live.

I teach Life Drawing at the University of Wisconsin–Stout. Some examples of my students' work are featured in my flickr galleries.

Before settling in Wisconsin, I lived/studied/taught in Iowa, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas. While I feel most at home in the Midwest, there are many days when I'm homesick for the South.

Amy's road trips are a fascinating view through her eyes of a beautiful country, full of contradictions, abandonment, decay, life and death. Unique and raw, sincere and without any make up, she shows us her world with kindness and modesty. I lover her work. gaby
