Just a simple nerd/geek in Perth, Western Australia messing around with a digital camera.

I'd like to say I'm strange, dark and solitary - but I'm mostly just strange. And solitary. I'd work on the dark thing, but frankly it just ain't gonna happen.

I used to do a bit of solo Urban Exploration, but haven't had much time to do it for several years (I occasionally manage to fit a little bit in). I'll gradually be putting a bunch of photos from my explorations online, along with a bunch of other pointless stuff that catches my interest.

My older photos were mostly taken with a Kodak EasyShare DX3215 Zoom. Nowdays I'm using a not quite as dodgy Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS.

My philosophy of photography (such as it is) is that I'm not a photographer - I'm a person who takes photos. If I see something I like, or that captures my interest, I'll shoot it. I won't sit around waiting for the perfect light, or set up a tripod and lights. There's nothing wrong with that kind of thing - I admire people who put that much effort into their art - but I never pretend to be anything but an amateur.

This viewpoint informs (hmmm, that's a bit of a wanky word, obviously been hanging out with my art major brother too much...) the photos I take while exploring old sites. I'm not there to take the best photos in the world - I'm there to document the site before it gets demolished or restored, and maybe catch some nice images along the way.

I also have a strong interest in history and the relics it leaves in the urban environment. Hunting down historical plaques and old trig points may not count as Urban Exploration in the strictest sense, but I include it because to me it feels the same. If you prefer pictures of decaying factories, that's cool, I take plenty of those as well, but it's not all that I do.

OK that's about it.

Oh - just a note on groups. If you want me to add a photo to your pool, great! Request it and I'll almost certainly add it. But if I have to join your group to add, then I probably won't. I'd prefer not to belong to dozens of groups for the sole purpose of adding a photo here and there. Sorry!
