Welcome to the ww2images archive.

Approximately 15 years ago I had an idea to create an online WWII photo library (mainly based on aviation) where veterans, families and authors could submit their photos to create a useful archive, available to all, with free access to veterans, schools and publishers. We became the first online library of its type and over the years have built up a priceless collection of wartime images, many rare and unique to our library. We covered the costs of the library by licensing images to magazines and book publishers and still offer this service, our images appearing regularly in magazines such as Britain at War and Aero Editions etc.

With the advent of sites like Flickr it seemed the right time now to host our collection here so that the millions of Flickr users could enjoy this unique collection. We are still adding to it of course, we have about 16000 images at the moment and all will be uploaded as soon as possible.

We have high-res versions of all images seen here stored offline available for licensing. Some files are larger than others, simply depending upon the quality and size of the original print from which they were scanned.

A few years ago we were approached with a request to host a unique collection of Royal Navy warship images that had been put together over a period of some 60 years. We set about scanning these incredibly detailed 10" x 8" photos but sadly the last trustee of the collection died before we could complete the job. As such we only have 6000 images scanned but they still form an amazing collection. We did host them as warshipimages.com but again, have now decided to host them here so that more people will get the chance to see them.

We hope you enjoy our collections, if you have any questions please just get in touch.
