The White Ribbon Alliance is an international coalition bound together by a common goal: to ensure that pregnancy and childbirth are safe for all women and newborns in every country around the world. Our coalition is 148 countries strong, full of men, women, young people, celebrities, first ladies, supermodels, pop stars, Governments and many many others, all committed to our cause.

Every minute somewhere in the world a woman dies in pregnancy or childbirth. 99% of these deaths are in developing countries. Almost all of these can be prevented.

We already know how to save mother’s lives, empower women and invest in health. Yet today, complications in pregnancy and childbirth remain the leading killer of women in the developing world.

Why does this still happen? Many people simply don’t know about it. And in many places women are not a priority. The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood is raising awareness of this shameful injustice – and demanding deep-rooted political change around the world. Everyone has a part to play in changing hearts and minds, in spreading the word, raising awareness and putting pressure on the world's leaders.
