Currently based in Brisbane, Australia, my images range across many styles including quirky candids, music and performance, architecture, abstracts, nature, event, and travel images.

One of my key themes is photo-journalistic style black & white street photography: capturing the quiet, often overlooked beauty in decaying urban environments and the people who inhabit them.

Most images are created on location with available light, and are natural and un-posed rather than 'manufactured' in a studio setting.

BACKGROUND

After completing degrees in Architecture and Multimedia, I began work as a multimedia designer in 1999 during the dotcom boom and pursued my passion for photography after hours.

Already experienced with digital technology, I abandoned film early on but recognise that vision, technique, creativity, patience and timing are the keys to creating memorable images, not digital manipulation in itself.

In 2004 I travelled through China and Japan en-route to London where I was based for the next four years as a digital media designer. During this time I took photographs throughout Europe including the former Soviet Bloc countries and explored more remote locations in the Baltic states, Iceland, the Middle East and northern Africa.

In December 2008 I returned to Australia via an epic six-month overland photographic odyssey through the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe, across Russia, then Mongolia and China and finally around South East Asia.

INFLUENCES

Elements of architectural theory and aesthetics including form, scale, space, texture and light all give direction to my process of image creation including choice of creative and technical approach. Another strong factor is the experience of interacting with many people from vastly different cultures, religions and lifestyles during my travels .
