Don continues to be an inspiration, both with his photo work and with his unique ability to teach others and get them motivated. His workshops really drive the important stuff home. I always come away with a deeper appreciation of the art, and a desire to take it to the next level. Kudos!
Amazing photographer and most importantly of all, one amazing guy. Thank you for your comedy and widsom and sometimes your snarky-ness which send the arrow of truth straight to the heart of the matter! Good man, that bloke!
He is the best women's photographer in flickr! I often look in his album to learn something more... ;)
Don has been called many things. Of those things, I have come to find that above all, he is very generous. Don has been called many things. Of those things, I have come to find that above all, he is very generous. Generous with his time, generous with his talent and generous in his connections with others. A balanced individual who appears to 'have it together'! He has a talent for teaching the complex and making it simple for all to understand. Most importantly he promotes each individual to discover their unique way of displaying their talents and champions their abilities. He is the 'Wizard of Wow"! (More like a 'Harry Potter' as opposed to the 'Lord Voldemort' side of things.) hahaha

I've been shooting for over 10 years, but really only serious about my photography for the last year and a half. I have taken at least a dozen workshops and seminars in the last 18 months and Don's was by far the best (and the most inexpensive). But it is so much more than that for Don, he is truely someone who enjoys building relationships and helping people be able to find the their true ability to express their creativeness. Like Joe McNally, David Hobby or Scott Kelby, there are no secrets with Don. He will tell you exactly where he put his light stand and exactly what he set his exposure to. He wants you to learn the technical so that you can move on and explore your creativeness. An accomplished graphic artist, web designer, photographer, musician and jazz aficionado, Don comes at life from a very creative perspective. He is the rare combination of technical and creative that can guide photographers to a more artistic process.

But to me it's not his photographs that make him stand out. (not that they are not great) It's his relentless approach to sharing his knowledge and the selfless passion with witch he tackles this task. I take a little something every time I visit his his informative site. "Lighting Essentials" Don, Keep up the great work!!!! Lew

If you can, take one of his seminars. If you can't take one of his seminars, buy one of his DVDs. If you can't buy one of his DVDs, read everything he posts in the Strobist Flickr group. It'll be educational. I promise.
I'm very grateful for his generosity. From the quality of his photos you can see he is a talented photographer. But it's his willingness to share his talents and knowledge that makes him and exceptional artist. Thank you, your explanations are much appreciated.

I really enjoy working around Don he is very inspiring and creative. It not his way or the highway, Don allows you to use your own ideas and posing for the more seasoned pros. While working with novice photographer he always takes the time to make sure they get the most out of his seminars. He loves to teach and it shows, I would recommend anyone from a novice to a pro attend one of his workshops. (That is of course if you like taking pictures) If you attend don't plan on sitting around hearing about how great he is. (That's not Don) Bring lots of memory cards and be ready to Shoot, collaborate with other photogs, and have a great day of photographing.

Don is a lighting genius!! His many years of experience has afforded him much opportunity for trial and error. His latest lighting techniques make it easy and affordable for the novice photographer to obtain decent lighting skills. Even seasoned pros should invest in one of his seminars just to obtain a different point of view on lighting. I have worked with Don many times over the last 10 years and he always amazes me with his McGyver type skills. Daniel Magallanes www.southweststyl...
