INDEPENDENT VINTAGE RADIO MUSEUM

Wireless in Wales is a small independent museum hosting an impressive collection of vintage radios and valves, as well as an extensive library of books and journals. Our museum founder and collector was the late David E. Jones who also founded the Welsh Language Centre in Denbigh. The museum is housed within the centre for teaching Welsh to adults.

The radio museum highlights the fact that Wales has a unique place in the history of broadcasting with many of the early radio pioneers having strong Welsh connections.

The impressive radio collection is arranged in chronological order and contains mainly British made radio equipment from the pioneering days of the early 20th century, through the golden age of radio broadcasting, to the 1960s and the dominance of television.

The museum is open every Saturday from 11:00 to 16:00. At other times by appointment.

Amgueddfa fach, annibynnol yw Gwefr heb Wifrau, sy’n cartrefu casgliad nodedig o hen radios clasurol a falfiau, yn ogystal â llyfrgell eang o lyfrau a chylchgronau. Y diweddar David E. Jones oedd sylfaenydd a chasglwr ein hamgueddfa ac ef a sylfaenodd y Ganolfan Iaith Gymraeg yn Ninbych hefyd. Mae’r amgueddfa wedi ei lleoli o fewn y Ganolfan sy’n dysgu Cymraeg I Oedolion.

Mae’r amgueddfa radio yn amlygu’r ffaith bod gan Gymru le unigryw yn hanes darlledu ac roedd gan lawer o’r arloeswyr radio cynnar gysylltiadau cryf â Chymru.

Mae’r casgliad radios nodedig wedi ei drefnu yn gronolegol ac mae’n cynnwys, gan fwyaf, offer radio o wneuthuriad Prydeinig o ddyddiau arloesol blynyddoedd cynnar yr 20fed ganrif, trwy oes aur darlledu radio, i’r 1960au a goruchafiaeth y teledu.
