Drag to set position!
This site is devoted to historic images of Winster, Derbyshire, England, and some of the people who have lived there. I hope you enjoy it.
The site celebrated its 9th birthday on 1st June 2017. I have been amazed and humbled at the interest shown by thousands of visitors to the site. One single image taken in 1947 had attracted 8946 hits by 6 July 2014 when the Flickr statistics were easier for me to understand than they are now in June 2017. If I identify the image here you'll probably want to have a look at it so I'll resist making it easy for you and leave you to have fun finding it if you are interested. It may have had more hits since 2014 . November 2009 was a record month for visitors - there were 2690 and in March 2013 there were 2678. You may have arrived here having seen me on Facebook or on Twitter as MickGreatorex. Please keep coming back to enjoy the site and to see if there is anything new and please tell other people about it.
The site is under continual review as the content grows. The rate of adding to the site has slowed down of late because of the other interests which I have but I'm always keen to add to it which is where you might be able to help me.
There are bound to be some errors of fact and identification: if you spot one (or more) please let me know and I'll correct them.
Indeed, if you have any images which you would like to see on this site then send me a jpeg scan with as much information about the images that you can muster and I'll be grateful to you.
I was born in Winster and, although I have not lived there for over 52 years I still regard it as "home."
If you are interested in Winster's local and family history then you should also look at these sites too:-
