The National Wild & Scenic Rivers System was created in 1968 to preserve some the United States’ outstanding rivers before dredging, damming and other degradations destroyed them forever. Photos on this site illustrate just some of the outstanding images the national system has to offer. If you have a photo of a wild & scenic river, and would like to showcase it on this site, please let us know.

By the way, you should also check out the galleries we've created. We've added many photos that are also available for use through other agencies and individuals.

We're also looking for photo contributions. If you have a high-quality image of a wild and scenic river, and are willing to share it with the public, please reach out to us at rivers@fws.gov. You have to be willing to share it nonprofit organizations and agencies for noncommercial use.

This site is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service. We are proud to be protecting our river heritage.
