As the congress moved to its closing ceremony, an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment started to float among us, the members of the Organizing and Steering committees, and, I guess, also among all the people involved in the planning and development of the congress. Kamala Harris, the first female Vice President of the US, probably felt the same when she said in a famous phone call, “We did it!” Of course, she was referring to a different, and fundamental moment in the recent history, but probably the feeling was similar. We (the geothermal community) did it (our World Geothermal Congress, in the final but still risky part of the hugest pandemic in the last one hundred years)… That wouldn’t be possible without the tireless, resilient and often frustrating efforts of the Icelandic organizing committee conducted by Bjarni Pálsson… Or without Heimsþing 2020, the special purpose company founded and financed by Landsvirkjun, Reykjavik Energy and HS Orka, who put the money and took the risk... But yes, we did it. And we will do it again.
