Back in the time of creation, the good lord decided that he needed a place to rest after his strenuous efforts putting the British Isles together. He built the rocky highlands of Scotland for the hardy Scotts, and then turned his attention to a flatter England with rolling hills and plains more suited for industry and farming. He then turned to Wales and placed it to the west with both mountains, rolling hills, and fertile green valleys with water in abundance and coal beneath to fire the industry of the southern coastal belt. After all this effort he made a selfish descision to create his own bit of heaven on earth. It had rolling hills to the north and a gentle run off these hills to the lower green pastures to the south. He filled it with a miriad streams and babbling brooks that made their way to the sea through one of the most beautiful and deepest natural waterways in the country. He placed the best beaches in the country around it's coast and filled the seas around with a diverse and beautiful series of wildlife and islands. These all needed protecting from the ravages of the open ocean so he placed Ireland to the west. Close enough to protect but far enough away not to be seen. He needed caretakers to look after his new land in the west so populated it with friendly souls and endowed them with a love of their surroundings and a welcoming smile. I'm proud to be one of those souls and of course the land he built for himself is Pembrokeshire. Gods Own Country.
I hope that through my images you too will see the beauty and diversity in this most wonderful county.
I started my photographic endevours in the early seventies and quickly developed a love for my new found hobby. Using pretty basic 35mm cameras at first and over a period of time moving on to Olympus and Nikon stock. Medium format bekoned and a Mamiya twin lens reflex saw good use for many years including weddings and a few commissions. Family matters & finances took me away from photography for a number of years but I always looked to get back into it at some stage. This came in the form of a new computer and a Fuji S602Pro Zoom in 2005. I was hooked again and have never looked back. I moved on to the Canon 30D with a 10-20mm 17-70mm and a 70-300mm in 2008 and the latest addition to my bag is the Eos 7DMKII and the Tamron 150-600mm Super Telephoto at the end of 2014. I try and get out as much as time will allow to capture the beauty around me. Now in my late 50's I see things in a much more different way to my younger days and have a deep appreciation for the beauty in nature and in my fellow man. I am never happier than when I'm looking through the lens at my next capture and feeling the expectation and excitement that comes with producing images that I know people all over the world will enjoy. Thank the lord for Flickr I say, and I hope my images will allow you all to get a glimps of this most beautiful area that I live in. If you wish to comment I would feel it an honour to receive them and always try to reciprocate when time permits.
