The Wayside Center for Popular Education is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Faber, VA. To those working for for social change in our region we offer a beautifully restored 1800's farmhouse as a resource to support your work. The house sits on a hilltop surrounded by 25 acres of lush bottom land and walking trails through wooded hills. All of this is nestled in a horseshoe bend of Cove Creek, which fronts the property on two sides.

Inspired by the Highlander Center in Tennessee, we envision a vibrant center where activists, organizers and other justice-loving folks can come together for education, training , socializing, rest, renewal, healing, fun and whatever else it takes to grow and be nurtured into a movement powerful enough to create the world we want to live in.

Some of our ideas for uses of the center include permaculture workshops, anti-racism training, organizational retreats for long-range planning, interpreting for social justice workshops, skill-shares, cultural events . . . We’ll grow our own food and experiment with, learn about and eventually model ways that we can live more sustainably. We’ll put on some of the programs and we hope you’ll use the space for some of your own. The space will be available for sliding-scale rentals that generate enough money to cover costs, but make it accessible to any group that wants and needs to use it.
