This flickr site is an historical project and over time, will show what some areas of north and central London looked like before the 1960's. The main focus is on the 1950's, but where possible, there will be views taken before this, together with many "then and now" shots to highlight the changes in architecture, transport and fashions. For those old enough to remember, I hope that some pictures will recall long lost memories - for others, there will be a chance to see what these locations looked like in the time of their parents, or grandparents.

I spent the first 30 years of my life living about 5 minutes walk from the Archway (off St John's Way) and it is great to see the old scenes. My father had a car hire business and lorry park next to the old Crouch End station at the junction of Hornsey Lane and Hornsey Rise. Went to Owens School at the Angel Islington and worked at Mount Pleasant Post Office from leaving school in 1964 until 1983. Moved to Hertford in 1977 and then on to present home in St Neots in 1992. Joined Hertfordshire County Council in 1983 and retired from there in 2011.
