Photographic heroes: Jane Bown, early women pioneers, Martha Gellhorn, Capra...and all the unsung heroes.

Born in Kent - after many adventures - now living in, and, 24yrs a part of, Cymru (Wales)...my home, my nation.

I'm 55 and now severely ill, disabled & housebound; but have led a rich and varied, widely travelled life before this life-stage.

Took my first photo aged three, when someone gave me an unwanted, plastic toy camera...I was in heaven!

By the age of five someone had handed me a WW2 Iloca Rapide B 35mm SLR - this went everywhere, recording life around me...it travelled with me overland to spend time in Iran, 1975, then recorded student life in London from the mid-70s to the early 80s (when it went to live in Germany with me); after my return to Kent, it survived stints at Greenham but "died" eventually, circa 1989/90.

Next came the Praktica MTL50 and an accumulated assortment of backbreaking lens, and, I used a Russian attache case enlarger etc to process my shots. To cut a long story short, as I deteriorated so did my photography...until the wonders of affordable digital cameras and laptops!

Now I use a Fuji Finepix S5700 which has a wonderful ergonomic, affordable design, ideal for the disabled photographer (sounds like an advert!)...I thought my housebound camera would be limiting, but you'd be amazed by what I capture in my lens! Not exactly "Rear Window" but it'll do, I manage here in Cymru/Wales! Hi everyone...

On my first visit to Kaz's stream I was "blind". and on the second visit I stayed awhile as I could really see, and in doing so was gifted /blessed and given a greater sense of gratitude for my lot in life as Kaz presented hers to all who wish to see. I not only now see the bigger picture but the little picture in all things.(and I don't have enough windows where I live) I've since moved, and have so many windows which I now spend a lot of time just looking out at the world thats beyond the glass. In her stream is a testimony to the true essence of who we are, whatever you may call it, not limited by our mortal coil, but far greater than any limitations. From wherever Kaz may be, which is mostly at home, she captures what we take for granted as a whole new world that I've never bothered to really look at before, because I'm too distracted by other things and I'm certainly not as present as Kaz is, but then again I'm not confined to a limited space as she is. Yet through her eye and lens she expands on so called limitations to reveal magic in all that she sees in her days from wherever she may be in her house with her camera ready. I've visited many streams in this flickr "world" but never before have I come away deeply moved and changed by what I've seen and experienced by Kaz's sharing and whose hearty spirit has uplifted mine. May all who venture further than page one on this stream be as blessed as I. Namaste Kaz.

Bright Weight (deleted)

She has great photos and makes the most out of life. Theirs a story behind each one and she's brilliant, especially under the circumstances she has. An overall awesome person! I'm very glad I met her.
