Drag to set position!
I enlisted in the Army at Fort Logan Colorado in November 1942. I went basic training at Camp Adair in Oregon. I entered Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I became a field artillery instructor assigned to the 80th Blue Ridge Division. I became an aide-de-camp to General Searby and headed for the European Theater. The 80th Division landed in Normandy and fought its way across France. The 80th became part of the 3rd Army under Patton. I was beside General Searby when he was killed on Mousson Hill above the Moselle River. General MacKelvie replaced General Searby and I became his aide-de-camp. We defended the city of Luxembourg. We broke through the Maginot and Siegried lines continuing across Germany. We entered Austria and met the Russian army when the 6th German army surrendured in May 1945. I was promoted to Captain.I was released as General Mackelvie's aide and assigned to 80th Division Headquarters. I was directed to take over a German clothing factory to manufacture clothing for the thousands of displaced persons that were living in the DP camps. I returned to the United States and was discharged in January 1946. I was born in 1916 and died in 2006 at the age of 90. This blog is lovingly created by my children.
