For me, a good photo is one where everything in the frame matters and contributes artistically to the whole. This is true of a point-and-shoot picture as well as the most complex shot using thousands of dollars worth of equipment. If it's good, then it's good. Maybe even real good. Interesting color. Purposeful minimalism. Vivid monochrome. Creative framing. Fascinating people and places. So this is how I approach photography - to create visually captivating images where everything in the frame matters. Sometimes I'm successful, sometimes not so much... but in the end I think if I have any real talent at all, it is the ability to notice what is good about the work of other photographers and to imitate it in my own work.

o0o today I stopped and thought: what if . . . what if I could not access flickr again, how would I feel about this ! who would I have wanted to say hello to and who would I miss and would I have any regrets, just as in our everyday lives ! Tom, I am so happy we are friends, to have had the opportunity to see your photostream and be able to enjoy the rich diversity of images you share with us all. Your passion for the sea and sailing, the light at dawn to the sunsets all are taken with a keen, sensitive and creative eye. You show us how you view the world around you in an uncomplicated way and reading your words that accompany your pictures, you make us smile as you share your emotions of the moment with us. The rain on the way to work, through the windscreen, colourful and amusing combination of effect and text makes you the best at portraying everyday events in our lives that are more often than not taken for granted and overlooked, you make them special ;-) and now ~ if I never return to flickr again . . . . o0o
