Mark Waddington is a Yorkshire-based landscape photographer whose work explores the relationship between people and the places they inhabit.

Working predominantly in black and white, he looks beyond the picturesque to find beauty in the quieter details of the landscape—its forms, textures, light and traces of human activity. His photographs often explore the relationships between natural and built elements: paths worn by walkers, walls enclosing trees, or buildings slowly reclaimed by nature.

Mark is drawn to the landscape in changing and challenging weather, particularly mist, cloud and rain. These conditions become part of the work, helping to convey not only how a place looks, but something of how it feels to be there.

His photographs seek to present familiar landscapes honestly rather than idealising them, exploring memory, atmosphere and the stories embedded in the land.
