-- the dedicated student --

"from the age of 7 i felt the impulse to draw the forms of things. approaching 50, i exhibited a collection of drawings; but nothing executed before my seventies satisfies me. only at 73 was i able to intuit, even if only approximately, the true form and nature of birds, fish, and plants. consequently, when i am 80 i will have made great progress; at 90 i shell have penetrated the essence of things; at 100 i shell certainly have ascended to a higher, indescribable state, and if i reach 110, everything, each point and each line, will live.

i invite those who live as long as i do to verify whether or not i keep these promises."

written at the age of 75 by me, formerly hokusai, now called huakivo-royi, the old man mad for drawing.*

*hokusai died at the age of 89

Testimonials

Anne says:

The watercolors sing! They remind me of Rodin's. It's so good to see an artist have a special take on a medium as voidit does.
