I've been taking photographs for 50 years and am still a semi-starving artist.
Any agents want a new (sic) artist in their stable?
I have had the good fortune to be in the company of world class printers and photographers all my life and not really understand how special it was. I have been learning by osmosis and not even knowing it.
Thank you Thor Bostrom, Irwin Welsher, Imogen Cunningham, Ron Partridge, Jim Marshall, Baron von Wolman, Eddie Dyba (the finest printer I have ever encountered) and on and on. Thank you Bill Owens, and in answer to your comment, no, I did not end up in suburbia.
I think the most important person to enter my photographic life was Irwin Welsher for putting me in a position to encounter so many of the people on my list. Welsher as part of his history was the printer for Steichen's "Family of Man" show.
A special thanks to Genevieve Baird for many years of friendship and mentorship. Had we not met, we probably would not have had the privilege of climbing all over beautiful (for the most part) artwork.
