While putting myself through school, I had the opportunity to work in a couple different camera stores. First Toronto Camera, then Steeles Camera... both of which ended up being purchased by Henry's Camera, for whom I worked for many years, and in many locations.
There were 2 things that I loved about working there. First, was having access to all the best equipment available. I think I changed my "main" camera every year or so. One year Nikon, the next Canon. Then Medium format, then back to 35mm SLR... etc.
The second thing was the fantastic people that I was able to meet and learn from. Other staff who were amazing photographers, and the pro customers who would come in for equipment, and "chat" about their recent work.
I'm currently shooting with a Canon 6d DSLR and loving it. Having started with film, and particularly slides, I' work hard to make my cropping and exposure decisions IN CAMERA- but invariably the shot gets polished in Photoshop... there are just so many interesting tools to be had that I certainly don't miss my darkroom days at all!
In the last few years I've had the privilege to work as Head Photographer at the Honda Indy Toronto, where I work with a group of volunteer photographers to cover the race on behalf of race owners GreenSavoree. My summers will never be the same!
I restrict my downloads to contacts. See something you'd like to use? Shoot me a message and I'd be happy to consider it. I'm not a pro, but I like to know what my photos are being used for. (Indycar related shots are not available for licensing.)
