Viterbo University is located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, a stunning river city known for its natural beauty, welcoming spirit, and vibrant culture. Nestled between the Mississippi River and a backdrop of scenic bluffs, La Crosse offers the best of both worlds: the warmth and charm of a close-knit community combined with the energy and opportunities of a metropolitan area of over 150,000. With miles of hiking and biking trails, a thriving arts and food scene, and year-round festivals, it is no surprise that La Crosse has been named one of the nation’s top 10 Best Places to Live by U.S. News & World Report and one of the top small college towns by USA Today.
At Viterbo, we believe education should prepare students for a life of purpose, integrity, and impact. Founded by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, our mission is grounded in values such as service, hospitality, stewardship, and respect for the dignity of all people. Our students do more than earn degrees—they become people who are committed to making the world a better place.
What sets Viterbo apart is our strong sense of community. With an 11 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio and a campus culture focused on personal connection and care, students are known by name, supported by dedicated mentors, and surrounded by peers who share a commitment to growth and meaning. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, in the lab, or on the field, our students are encouraged to grow intellectually, culturally, and spiritually.
Our walkable campus is located in the heart of La Crosse’s south side, just blocks from coffee shops, the riverfront, and downtown life. Athletic fields for soccer, softball, and baseball are located a few miles away and provide additional space to compete, connect, and support one another. Viterbo is a proud part of the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which provides our students with incredible opportunities to become champions while staying focused on the the most important part of being a student athlete - being a student. To that end, we offer 16 varsity sports including men's and women's basketball, women's and men's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's bowling, men's and women's golf, women's track and field, baseball, softball, and competitive dance.
At Viterbo, learning is about more than coursework. It is a journey of becoming—fully supported, purposefully guided, and uniquely your own.
