I am a professional Toronto caricaturist and illustrator.
I have extensive experience in caricature art, comic art, editorials, game boards, character design, CD covers, print advertisements, etc.
I have also been privately commissioned for live events and commercial events. Basically, I must have drawn over 100,000 faces at these events over the years! (or do I exaggerate?) Really, I have done hundreds upon hundreds of these types of commissions and they do all tend to blur together, but I would like to highlight some proud career experiences.
Some highlights and proud moments would include:
***
*Teaching caricature, character design and humorous illustration at Max the Mutt Animation school here in Toronto. I enjoyed my stint as a teacher. I became rather close to my students, and it was rather sad to have to say good-bye. Once, I received a round of applause from the students on the last day of a final semester, and it left me chocked up. That made me feel very proud.
*Caricaturing actor Fred Ward when he appeared in Toronto for some on location shooting. Actually, the studio needed to hire an artist to paint a caricature portrait of Fred Ward’s character and the painting appeared in the movie for which it was commissioned. (Was it art or a movie prop?)
*I was commissioned to paint Ron Howard’s caricature portrait as a gift for the famous director. I have also been commissioned to paint a head-honcho at the William Morris Agency.
*I have also contributed articles on the caricature genre to magazines such as “Caricature” and “Exaggerated Features”. (This last is published by the NCN—National Caricature Network).
*I am very proud to have been interviewed by many television shows (and print articles) which would include shows like Canada AM, Breakfast Television, News at Noon, etc—and I have been pegged by Canadian Media as being “Canada’s foremost caricature artist.” I don’t know where this started and it does ring of standard media hyperbole, but who am I to argue with the press? What am I--a trouble maker?
*Finally, (without gong on and on) I am very proud to be working diligently on Icons and Idols, a book I'm writing, but it will primarily consist of my paintings.
*Live gallery events are always a plus!

Victor, like his art, is larger than life. He tackles the big issues and puts them right in your face. I knew that making caricatures was about exaggerating the features a little. Little! Victor manages to exaggerate them a whole lot while keeping the essential personality clear. Even more than his pictures, the text that he puts with them is thought provoking. He does not walk the safe and simple path, but like his forebears walks the lonely path of seeking truth without flinching.

A testament to art, and the visual further engraves the message. His talents captivate and educate. One of the great ones of our time and times to come. Victor's book is sure to mesmerize the reader. Like a focal point which entices the subject to accept all suggestions. The focal point is the art with subliminal messages embedded. The confirmations are the stories in their written form. I hear a voice as if spoken directly from Victor. The commands embedded in the art works, confirmed by the written stories are the true voice. Unyielding to restraint, yet compassionate enough to ease ones defenses. Radical one moment, and paying homage at the next. Victor, has the ability to tell a story, clarify the point a view, and add a picture to embed a vision, yet be genuine all at once. Be prepared for a journey with Victor to paths less traveled. Guided by artwork which will have you telling others "Come see and feel what I have experienced." First there was "The Jimi Hendrix Experience." Now, there is the "Victor Pross Experience." "So a...are you experienced." "Yes, I am."

Victor Pross came out of nowhere to me, smack into the middle of my path and I couldn't be more grateful. The mind behind this man's work leaves me even more breathless than his flawless, boundary-pushing artistic endeavors. It's been so long since I've met somebody who lived and breathed their passion in such a way that you can't help but be utterly inspired beyond words. Victor, you own my heart and soul in the way that any great artist holds it's audience completely captivated, stuck in awe. You've made me want to continue growing and pushing myself as a photographer, as a person. You've managed to remind me that there are people out there who completely get it and that, in the end, all that matters is the art (because it's everything). You've left an impression on me. For that, i'm forever grateful and blessed.

As once said by the lovely Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a German artist " A painter paints the appearance of things, not their objective correctness, in fact he creates new appearances of things." This, I believe, can absolutely be applied to the work of Victor Pross. Not only is his artwork exceptional, it captures and exaggerates the physicality of the subject that is otherwise, not able to be seen by the naked eye. I suppose I could spend lengths unheard of looking at one of his paintings, and creating countless metaphors for the subjects that I had never before thought of. Truly, madly, and deeply captivating.
